Their original collection was Americana inspired, women’s leather and wool American Indian blanket jackets (the fashion at the time) This was also the inspiration for the name Blue Duck, a traditional Indian name popularized in the popular western novel Lonesome Dove, by Larry McMurtry

Their unique look was the creation of designer Richard Meyerson graduate of the Edmode School of design in Paris. They started producing shearling coats and jackets for men and women from hides from American sheep. Very warm thick and heavy but very heavy.

Good for aviator jackets like the B-3 crews wore during WWII as the airplanes were not heated…however not for great for women’s fashion garments but there were better things to come.

The introduction of hides from Iceland, more sheep in Iceland than people, very warm and much lighter in weight than the American skins but the fur or the wool as we call it in the business was not so soft and silky, but not bad and shearlings were becoming more and more fashionable each season.

Blue Duck begins producing their shearlings exclusively from Spanish Merino Skins…. Light weight soft, supple really warm and durable. Blue duck adds two additional manufacturing facilities in New York City to supplement production from their main manufacturing center in Brooklyn. Blue Duck becomes the largest producer and wholesaler of fine shearlings in the USA.

Blue Duck as novelty furs and fur lined storm coats to its collection. With an expanded product line Blue Duck became a brand name in major stores across America and Canada.
